Cartwright Conversions has delivered a fleet of 40 welfare vehicles for a major site services equipment hire specialist. The vehicles are designed to provide essential amenities for workers operating at demanding locations such as construction sites, motorway maintenance contracts and other projects where permanent facilities are unavailable or impractical. Provision of toilet, washing, drinking water and rest facilities for workers wherever they are located is a legal requirement for all employers and this has driven growth in the market for welfare vehicles.
The new welfare fleet devised for the equipment hire specialist comprises of 20 Fiat Ducato and 20 Ford Transit vans for teams of up to seven workers. Each vehicle has been transformed to the client’s specification by Cartwright Conversions at its dedicated facility in Doncaster to incorporate a toilet cubicle, hand-washing facilities, canteen area, power supplies (including 12V and USB chargers), lighting, and secure storage for tools and other items. The self-contained toilet cubicle has a hot water sink, hand dryer and fully flushing fresh water toilet with a self-servicing gravity discharge system designed to provide more friendly and hygienic conditions than other mobile welfare units on the market. The canteen area contains an instant hot water boiler and microwave with seating for four people. The project included provision of electrical services and lighting as well as application of customer-specific livery.
Cartwright Conversions managed the complete project from end-to-end to provide a one-stop solution for the client. This included liaising with vehicle suppliers to arrange delivery of the base chassis, sourcing specialist equipment, managing all pre-delivery inspections and preparing all statutory documentation such as VCA Type Approval and VOSA certification.
